HELP !!! Anyone with maxed out (or very high) B-spec skills
From: Fallen0ne
| Posted: 3/20/2005 7:50:55 AM | Message Detail
I am guessing that some of you must have figured out how the 3 B-spec skill points are increased.
I did complete 100% of the game, but my B-spec skills are:
-82 machine
-82 course
-74 battle
I am trying really hard to max out all 3 skills, but my B-spec skill points go up slowly after I do a bunch of races.
Did any of you guys out there manage to max out on any of the 3 skills (or get above 90)?
If yes, please post what you do to increase the # of points of the skill that you managed to max out... Which car you used, which car setting, which tracks, how many races, were you actively B-specting (changing speeds during the race, switching between overtake & race), etc...
I look forward to getting tips from you guys...
Thanks in advance.
:-)

Try doing a b-spec in a car you have never b-specced with on a track you have also never b-specced on. Let it run for a few dozen laps (practice mode). I think that should increase the points by two or three...

So letting a special car run on practice mode for a bunch of laps does increase the skill levels (as opposed to just doing 1 or 2 laps)?
Poster #2, yes your skill points are looking good (above what I had at that % of the game completed).

ok, umm, maybe it's just me, but going to practice mode always is A-spec for me, unless you mean going to the Original Circuit, World Circuit etc from the map.

I’ve had my B-spec driver out practicing with different tracks and cars all day and his skills have really improved. I’ve concentrated on the Original Circuits and Driving Park, run them normal for 10 minutes or more on triple-steady, switch cars, and then run the track in reverse. It seems he gained the most experience while driving FF, RR, and 4WD street cars, and also special cars that couldn’t be used in standard races. Changing parts and tires didn’t seem to help. I bought most of the cars used and usually didn’t modify them – throw away cars.
B-spec: Some of the tracks continue to leak out a few B-spec points if I run a lucky car long enough on track that’s not worn out.
Machine Skill: I think his last few machine points were hidden in a “special” car. FF cars seemed to help the most (probably because I didn’t use them for endurance races), but I haven’t given up on Type-R, Type-S, or any other type I can think of while I attempt to boost my course skill by practicing only. The strategy seems to work fine. Practice with different cars in B-spec mode and the machine skill will go up.
Course Skill: Although this skill has improved with practice mode only, progress has been slower than expected. Hopefully, the world and city circuits have a lot of points left in them. I suspect that adjusting course speed while backseat driving a close battle will be more profitable, but I’m trying to get these points using steady or cruise first.
Battle Skill: As expected, practice alone hasn’t helped. I found he was more likely to gain points with a second place finish. I tried pitting, fiddling with the tires and waiting until I was behind, then passing the field repeatedly during endurance races. It didn’t help. He gained the most experience while B-specking (spell-check says its okay) the F1 championship.

That's been happening to me more often than not now that he's practiced with a variety of cars and tracks. I scrounged 9 more points out of Seattle with a Cube X, then stalled again. FF cars aren't doing the trick anymore. Maybe some Australian cars would help.

Thanks for all the tips guys.
Great job Orion_SR. I'll give it a try later, because I'm in the middle of a 24 hour Nurburgrung (2 more F1s to go). So I should buy used FF FR MR RR & 4WD cars and run them on high speed & autumn ring... Orion_SR how many machine skill points did you have before doing that?
Ebony Ivory, I'm still waiting to hear form you...
More tips are welcomed guys.

I found some old notes. I started doing practice on the Original Circuits, and Driving Park (check the green signs) using only B-spec on steady for most of a day and got the following results. B-spec: 8057 to 8620
Machine: 91 to 100
Course: 83 to 88
Battle: 79 (no change, didn’t try)
I wasn’t having much luck with MR and FR cars. I suspect this is because these cars were already used to win endurance races. In addition to changing drive trains, I also tried to mix up any other criteria used in the game. Different manufactures, countries, Boxers, trucks, convertibles, old cars, and special cars. I didn’t buy many tuner cars for testing, and all of the race cars seem to be mastered. I didn’t drive any of my one-time-only prize cars.
I just found another course point running 50 laps of Tokyo 246 Reverse in a Korean made Spirra (MR, that was unexpected). I am almost finished testing the City Courses and will probably use the same strategy on the World Circuits before attempting to set up some interesting battles.

Thanks Orion_SR
Great tips! I had about given up on B-spec points. I B-spec'ed at Autumn Ring both normal and reverse using the VW beetle 1949 model, (won at the dealership race). My B-spec points went like this...
7689 to 7902 (+213) overall
85 to 90 machine
77 to 80 track
no change to battle.
Right on! Thanks again. Good stuff.

White Ghost you can B-spec the Motor Carriage in practice mode for World, City & Original courses...
The funny part is that for about 80% of the courses, the car will just get stuck because it only has 1 hp. As soon as that happens, just exit your practice run & you should notice that you have some extra B spec points.
Thanks for the notes Orion_SR, if you ever uncover anything else about how to increase B-spec skill points, feel free to post your tips.
Ebony Ivory, are you still around?

B-spec Update
I’m almost to the end of the World Circuits and developed the following superstitions:
Changing cars will not improved machine skill beyond 100 (probably).
Courses continue to provide B-spec skill points until mastered (maybe).
B-spec skill accumulates at a rate of about 1 point for 10 kilometers (sometimes more).
Practice long enough and earn a course point (most testing required).
Which drive train I use is now a less reliable indicator of receiving B-spec points.
I am not confident about any of these statements, and I’m working with guesses and wishes. At this point it will be impossible to give any good estimates of how many miles are needed to master a course and receive a skill point (if that’s how it works), or how many of which type of car is required to max out the machine points.
Anybody have any luck with Battle skill? I’ve been avoiding this skill in order to discover if active B-specking was required for course skill (probably not).

I am doing the Driving Park courses with the Mitsubishi Mirage Cyborg ZR 97, and both my Machine and Course points keep going up. They both went from 82 to 85.
I re-did some courses and got even more points.

After using the Mitsubishi Mirage Cyborg ZR 97 & the Dodge Ram in the driving park and on the original courses (practice mode), I got my skills up to 95 (machine), 89 (course), 74 (battle - didn't change).
I will try using these 2 cars on other courses to see if I can max out both machine & course

Interesting observations on B-Spec points. I haven't been doing much B-Spec driving yet, but when I get home, I'll take my Model T Ford to the Driving Park and have him run practice laps around the flat courses....I don't think that he'll make it up some of the hills on the Nurburgring (World Circuits).

B-speculations:
Today, I have more questions than answers. I take this as a sign of making progress.
1. I’ve noticed that at the most I gain 9 B-spec points at a time. Does each track have 9 points for each class of car? Or, maybe 10 points because I already had one point from a previous race.
2. What are the B-spec car classes? I have been using Drivetrain to determine this class and, towards the end of my testing, would try each track with FF, FR, MR, and 4WD cars. However, I have been testing fairly randomly. Too bad I didn’t keep better notes. It would be helpful to know for 1 track tested with a bunch of cars, the order of which cars provided additional points, and just as important, which did not.
3. Can a car qualify for more than one B-spec class at a time?
4. Can cars be reused for practice on different tracks?
5. What is required to receive all class points? (Distance?)
6. Can the same car be reused on the same track to get the ninth point?
7. Can some points become unobtainable forever?
8. Does each track have course points available for each class?
9. Do all tracks have course points and how are they earned?
10. Can battle points be earned without earning B-spec points?
11. Which car set is required for all machine points?
12. Which cars are most likely to contain hidden machine points? (for me, it was the Prowler)
13. How are machine and B-spec classes affected my age, country, manufacture, special/production/tuner/race, power, Boxer/NA/turbo, convertible/truck, tires, modifications, weight, length or any other known class?
15. What are the B-spec point and skill maximums?
16. How many A-spec points would have been received for a race that received a battle skill point?
B-spec: 8784
Machine: 100
Course: 90

thanks for the tip on the Mitsubishi Mirage Cyborg ZR 97 i un;ocked about 400 bspec points and 7 machine and course levels running it on the driving park technical trax.
I managed to squeeze out about 15 points per track in my spoon integra. i guess since i never drove it before. i'm thinking theres a japanese track the net's it a bundle
i'll post if i can confirm that.
but right now it seems like really crappy unmodified cars do the most for the exp. racing suspensions seem to limit the amount of points you get.

the oval did next to nothing for me 15 points at most, even with the mitsubishi, the complex track seems to get more out of the driver/car. you can see him getting better as he chases his ghost around the track trying to beat his time.

Possible findings/theory for BATTLE SKILL:
I have come to the conclusion that just as other skills, a variety of cars (crappier the better) will help boost this skill. However, here is the key... PLACE CHANGES. By this, I do not mean lapping a car 10 times. I do mean falling behind in (2nd, 3rd, etc.) and then coming back to 1st place.
I figured this out by doing endurance races where my car was just a little more powerful than theirs (i.e. Roadster endurance). I also tested this theory out on the Nurburgring 4 hour endurance, as I used a RUF with about a 20 HP difference on the competition. I would slow my car down on purpose to let the competition catch me, and then would push to take the lead. After the race was over, I gained about 7 points on every skill and I believe 8 or 9 on battle skill. Now to prove this theory I tried it again (different course, different car). I, however, stayed with the 20 HP difference, but never took my car off push. At the end of this race... all stats increased by about 7 with Battle Skill at about 2-3.
This is not in concrete but is my theory.

UPDATE: My driver, who recently had his name changed to "learn to ****ing drive you pathetic excuse for a B-Spec driver" sucks. Using the Mirage Cyborg, Driving Park, the third track from the left... he can never pass his ghost. ALWAYS 1.5-2.5 seconds behind at the end. But, when I used him in a race on MR cup in Beginner, he was awesome. He kicked everyone's ass, and had less points than he does now. Why the hell does he suddenly suck?

That mitsubishi is garbage. set a pace lap for him first ( go through the first lap on slow down) then jump to cruise at the begining of the 2nd lap.
my driver can't control that peice of trash going any faster than 2 and his machine skil is 93.
and even on 2 when he's chasing the ghost he messes up from time to time. I think he learns from it because he starts taking better lines after a while.
just let him run for about 10 - 15 laps then check the point increase

Suggestions for Improving B-spec Skills
1. B-spec the same car (class of car) on different tracks.
2. B-spec different car classes (so far, just drivetrain) on each track.
3. B-spec a variety of cars to increase machine skill.
4. Enough experience with a track is likely to increase course skills.
5. B-spec points, course skill and machine skill can be earned without adjustments.
6. B-spec an evenly matched race seems more likely to increase battle skill.
7. Follow the green sign icons to practice at triple speed without pitting.
8. Practice each track as they are unlocked for about 100 miles.
9. Use B-spec to lay ghost when practicing for races, license tests, and missions.
10. Practice all S-license tests and all lap missions against a B-spec ghost.
11. Learn new A-spec courses by watching B-spec practice in 1st person view.
12. Use different cars when repeating races for money or a better color of car.
13. Buy used cars and practice without upgrades. Throw the car away.
14. Don’t use more upgrades than required to win One-Make races. (save money)
Since I am nearing the end of the B-spectrum, I think points are much harder to come by. I’m glad to note that others are seeing more rapid progress. Thanks for the Battle strategies – I’m looking forward to testing your theories. If anyone has broken the 90 course or 80 battle barriers, please tell me how.

in my experience making the driver go as fast as humanly posible without sliding off the road at all is the best way to raise your course skill. as he learns to navigate tighter turns at higher speeds he gets better.... maybe, could be some other factor
From what i've seen practicing driving park does more for machine skill, because your letting him practice with different cars.
the biggest exp jump i got on a single car is that crap mitsubishi.
right now i'm running an audi rs4. since my b spec driver has never driven a 4wd

I am willing to bet/hope a few things:
1) A-spec points are in some way related to B-spec points (i.e. amount of A-spec points to be obtained will reflect the amount of B-spec points you obtain).
2) Orion_SR may unlock something for maxing out his B-spec points...
Let's hope that #2 may be correct...

i think the car has to drive really bad, to really benefit the driver. If you let him go for about 10 laps you'll start to notice him becoming more proficient with the car. his racing lines get better he brakes properly, he doesn't let the ghost lead him into the kitty litter. and he'll start to catch his ghost without you having to touch the pace.
my driver passed his ghost 4 times set on cruise at driving park in the mitsubishi, with about .523 between them every time. i got maybe 30 more points afterward
the dodge ram gave me about 300 points and at first he was having problems controlling the body roll. about 10 laps into high speed ring. he started to show drastic improvement. thats when i quit and saw a ton of points
Currently 8154
Machine=99
course=90 (hit a wall)
battle=73

I just tried to b-spec one of the fr-races:
1st try.
used a Mazda rx-8 concept 01 (about the same power as the other cars if not worse) , could only gain one place and finished as 5th.
battle improvement +4
2nd try:
with my tuned chevelle. smoked'em, finished 1st.
battle improvement NONE
so the b-spec points improvement - the battle section at least - seems to highly depend on the a-spec points you can win.
but.. when racing with the mazda, I four times switched place with guy behind me. So became 5th, then 6th, 5 th again and so on. So it could be, that only the amount of ranks lost and regained add to your battle points, but since it's a 2 lap race only I couldn't test that with the chevelle and I don't have nuff percentage to go for the endurances.

i've noticed that, the closer you are to your competition in terms of power = a higher a spec point total.
I "Think" the same rule apply's to b spec.

FR Challenge – a few B-spec points
BMW M3, 344HP
Mercedes SL 500, 306HP
4WD Challenge – a few B-spec points
Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution II, 267HP
Toyota Celica GT-FOUR, 235HP
I am choosing two cars that should provide A-spec points in the range of 20 to 40, and 60 to 85 respectively. Horsepower listed is from the garage. Cars are unmodified (except oil on used cars) unless otherwise noted. If TpainK’s A-spec/B-spec Battle Theory holds true, then this range should provide the most B-spec and skill points. If someone has any information that would suggest an A-spec=50 HP level for each series of races, it would certainly help my win/loss percentage. I don’t think it matters but, I recently topped 14k A-spec points working out a strategy for mission 23. [Off topic: repeat mission 9 to pad your A-spec points in a hurry]
