Series 3/3a/3c/3mx - Series 5/5mx, revo, revo plus - Nokia 9300/9500
Welcome to the free downloads page. Here you'll find the bits of software written for Psion (and other) machines that I thought other people might find useful. It's all free, all that I ask is that if you like what you find then let me know. E-mail or postcard would be great!
I've acquired a Nokia communicator, so expect to see some S80 versions
of the software below soon. You can start by downloading the alpha version of Adder
(it's not in beta testing yet since it's still a work in progress).

For those of you who remember the Series 3A calculator with fond memories I present Adder. It came about when I bought a Series 5 and found that I didn't like the calculator. I preferred the unfussy 'get-on-with-the-job' interface that I had on my S3a, and decided to re-invent it on the S5. When I upgraded my S3a to the S3mx I didn't like that calculator either, so now the S3 machines have a S3a type calculator too. It comes in zipped form with a set of installation instructions and full help.

This is the latest version. It's a beta version, but I forgot to change the version from alpha before I put it here (alpha is the testing that I do). Hopefully it's free of errors. I've included it here just in case anybody would like to play with it. So long as you're happy to accept that it might have a few teething problems then feel free to use it, and give me some feedback if you find any problems.
This version is playing catch up with all of the changes that have been included in the S5/revo version, so it sees the addition of:-
It comes in zipped form with a set of installation instructions and full help.
Buggies was originally written to aid in the derivation of gear ratios for off-road model cars some 18 years ago. It has since been developed over many machines and has seen a version on each Psion machine that I've owned. This is the latest S3a/c/mx version, and the best. It allows you to compare the ratios of 2 cars with each other at the same time (piccy below), and will also allow you to determine which gear ratio to run if all you are interested in is mm/rev travel (piccy not below, but see revo picture below for an idea of what to expect). This version sees a calculator that will convert between real speed and motor RPM. It comes all zipped up with installation instructions, an example database of model cars and full help.
Note that this version stores it's settings in a way that is incompatible with previous versions. If you are installing over a previous version of buggies the car name and pinion/spur settings will not be recognised, so you'll need to choose a car before you can use each of the calculators. From the first use the settings will be remembered again.

Anybody that has played the FASA game BattleTech and had to make tweaks and compromises to get their ideal 'mech configuration should appreciate this. It's a little rough and ready since it was never meant to be released, but works perfectly well. It is, at least, a lot better than mucking around with pencil, paper and rule books! It copes with nearly all the Inner Sphere and Clan 'mech rules that were in place in The Rules Of Warfare (third printing September 1995) and the BattleTech Tactical Handbook (corrected fourth printing). It comes in zip format with installation instructions and full help.

All the software below is zipped since I haven't got around to finding out about SIS files yet (the Psion installation scripts). Apologies for any confusion caused, but it's not really that complicated. When you've unzipped the files just put the whole application folder in to the system\apps\ folder on your S5 or revo. Each zip comes with installation instructions anyway.
Anywhere the S5 is referred to below can also be read as applying to the S5mx as well. The software below will run on the S5, S5mx and in most cases on the revo and revo plus too.

This is the latest final version of Adder. The full list of features is presented below:-

As it says above Buggies was originally written to aid in the derivation of gear ratios for off-road model cars some 18 years ago. It has since been developed over many machines and has seen a version on each Psion machine that I've owned. This is the latest EPOC version, and the best. It allows you to compare the ratios of 2 cars with each other at the same time (S5 and revo piccies below), and will also allow you to determine which gear ratio to run if all you are interested in is mm/rev travel (piccies also below). This version sees a calculator that will convert between real speed and motor RPM. It comes all zipped up with installation instructions, an example database of model cars and more help than you could shake a big pointy stick at.
The code will detect whether it is
being run on a Series 5 or on a revo and adjust its appearance as necessary.
The S5 and revo screens are displayed below.

A freeware lap counter for model car racing. If you can't afford an automatic system, and you've got a revo or Series 5 then this is for you. Using the keys 0 through 9 you can run a race from 1 to 15 minutes for 10 cars. All you need is this software and someone to press the keys. Features include:-
The code will detect whether it is being run on a Series 5 or on a revo and adjust its appearance as necessary.
The revo screens are displayed below, the S5 screens are the same only bigger.

See the S3 bumph above. If you've ever played BattleTech you know what this is going to do!

PS. It's very unlikely that the revo will get this, I think it will need too much work to be brought up to EPOC GUI standards - let me know what you think.

This program replicates the tones emitted by the standard ERS 110 and ERS 111 aibo sound controller. If you're like me, you've always got your trusty Psion machine with you, yet you always forget to take your aibo sound controller whenever you take your ERS110/111 for walkies.
The code will detect whether it is being run on a Series 5 or on a revo and adjust its appearance as necessary.
The revo screens are displayed below, the S5 screens are the same only bigger.

Note that you'll need the OPL runtime installed on your Series 80 device in order to use the software below. You can get the latest version of the runtime for your device from the opl-dev project.
For those of you who remember the Series 3A calculator with fond memories (and for those of you that remember Adder for Psion machines with fond memories) I present Adder for your Series 80 device. Adder has quite a history, and appears to have gathered a few fans on the way. I was asked if it was available for Series 80 devices, such as the Nokia 9300 and 9500 communicator, at about the same time that I was looking to replace my Samsung T100 with a Nokia phone (I much preferred the Nokia 7110 I had before the T100). I was aware of Symbian powered phones, but I wasn't aware that they had continued the work started by Psion and Symbian. It must have been kismet. So, Adder has made the jump to another platform.
This is very much a work in progress, hence the alpha suffix to the version number (meaning that it's pre-beta, still being worked on by me). It comes in zipped form, at the moment the zip just contains the application and apllication icon files so you'll need to create a folder called adder in the c:\system\apps\ folder on your device and copy the files there. When I've made more progress on the program I'll spend a little more time adding instructions and a help file to the zip.
In the main, Adder works very well at the moment. The vast majority of it's functionality is working, with just a few things to be tackled or tidied before it's first real release. It's had most of the replatforming work done already, such as removing the ER5 toolbars, removing pen support and adding the S80 AppFrame/CBA stuff (i.e. title bars, command button support and stuff)
